Spiny Eels (Macrognathus sp.) are fascinating freshwater fish admired for their elongated, eel-like bodies, pointed snouts, and distinctive dorsal spines. Their unusual appearance and natural burrowing behaviour make them an intriguing addition to larger freshwater aquariums.

They thrive in well-maintained aquariums with stable water quality, good filtration, soft sandy substrate, and plenty of hiding places among driftwood, rocks, caves, and plants. A fine substrate allows them to burrow and forage naturally without damaging their delicate bodies. They are often shy during the day and become more active around dusk and at night.

Feed a varied diet of quality sinking foods, frozen foods, earthworms, and appropriately sized live foods.
