Neolamprologus Ocellatus Blue (Neolamprologus ocellatus) are fascinating Lake Tanganyika shell-dwelling cichlids admired for their attractive blue colouration, compact size, and bold territorial behaviour. Commonly known as shell dwellers, they use empty snail shells as shelters and breeding sites, making them an engaging addition to a dedicated African cichlid aquarium.
They thrive in stable, hard, alkaline water with a sandy substrate and plenty of suitable empty shells arranged across the aquarium floor. Despite their small size, they can be surprisingly territorial when defending their shells, so providing multiple shells and adequate space helps reduce competition and allows natural behaviour.
Feed a varied diet of quality small cichlid pellets, flakes, frozen, and appropriately sized live foods.
Approximate size is 3cm. Size, colour, pattern, sex, and appearance may vary.
