Acclimation Guide

1. Prepare Your Aquarium

Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.

2. Start Drip Acclimation

Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.

3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water

Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.

4. Transfer Your Fish

Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.

5. Give Them Time to Settle

Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.

L397 Tiger Plecos (Panaqolus sp. L397) are striking, bottom-dwelling catfish known for their bold black and orange banded pattern and active nocturnal behaviour. They are best suited to well-oxygenated aquariums with plenty of hiding places, where they contribute both visual interest and algae control.

Scientific name: Panaqolus sp. L397
Approximate size: Up to 12–15 cm (4.7–6 in)
Temperament: Generally peaceful; can be territorial around caves, driftwood, and preferred hiding places
Recommended tank size: 100 L (26 US gal) or larger
Diet: Primarily a wood grazer; provide plenty of aquarium-safe driftwood along with sinking pleco foods, algae wafers, spirulina-based foods, and blanched vegetables. Occasional protein-rich foods can also be offered.
Origin: Brazil, associated with the Alenquer region and lower Amazon basin
Basic care information: Keep in clean, well-oxygenated freshwater around 24–28°C (75–82°F) with a pH of approximately 6.0–7.5. Provide plenty of driftwood, caves, rocks, and shaded areas for grazing and shelter. L397 is a wood-eating pleco, so driftwood should be a permanent part of the aquarium. It is generally suitable for peaceful community aquariums with compatible tank mates.
