Acclimation Guide

1. Prepare Your Aquarium

Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.

2. Start Drip Acclimation

Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.

3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water

Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.

4. Transfer Your Fish

Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.

5. Give Them Time to Settle

Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.

Kohaku Swordtails are attractive livebearing freshwater fish known for their clean white bodies accented by vivid red markings, inspired by the classic kohaku koi pattern.

Common names: Kohaku Swordtail, Koi Swordtail
Scientific name: Xiphophorus hellerii
Approximate size: Males up to 10–12 cm; females up to 12–14 cm
Temperament: Generally peaceful, active community fish
Recommended tank size: 75 L (20 US gal) or larger
Diet: Omnivorous; quality flakes and pellets, supplemented with algae-based foods, vegetables, and occasional frozen or live foods
Origin: Central America — Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras
Basic care information: Keep in groups with plenty of swimming space, plants, and hiding areas. A ratio of more females than males helps reduce excessive mating attention. Maintain clean, well-filtered water around 22–28°C (72–82°F). Swordtails prefer moderately hard, neutral to slightly alkaline water and are livebearers that can reproduce readily in community aquariums.
