Acclimation Guide
Acclimation Guide
1. Prepare Your Aquarium
Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.
2. Start Drip Acclimation
Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.
3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water
Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.
4. Transfer Your Fish
Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.
5. Give Them Time to Settle
Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.
Important: Arrived with an issue?
If any fish arrive dead (DOA), keep the transport bag sealed and contact us within 24 hours with clear photos of the fish inside the unopened bag.
See our DOA Policy for more information.

Electric Yellow Cichlids are bright freshwater fish with a vivid yellow body accented by subtle black markings along the dorsal, anal, and ventral fins. Its streamlined, laterally compressed body and rounded fins give it a bold and clean appearance.
Common names: Electric Yellow Cichlid, Electric Yellow Lab, Yellow Lab, Lemon Yellow Lab, Yellow Prince
Scientific name: Labidochromis caeruleus
Approximate size: 10–13 cm
Temperament: Semi-aggressive but relatively peaceful for an African Mbuna cichlid; males can be territorial
Recommended tank size: 150 L+ for a small group; larger tanks are recommended for community setups
Diet: Omnivorous, with a strong preference for plant-based foods; quality spirulina-based flakes, pellets, algae wafers, and occasional brine shrimp or other protein-rich foods
Origin: Lake Malawi, East Africa
Basic care information: The Electric Yellow Cichlid is a bright yellow color form of Labidochromis caeruleus, a rock-dwelling Mbuna cichlid. Provide a spacious aquarium with fine sand, plenty of rocks, caves, and open swimming areas. Maintain stable temperatures around 23–28°C and hard, alkaline water with a pH around 7.7–8.6. Keep with other compatible Lake Malawi cichlids rather than typical soft-water community fish. A ratio of one male to several females can help reduce aggression. Avoid keeping different Labidochromis species together if breeding purity is important because they can hybridize.
