Dwarf Rasboras (Boraras maculatus) are tiny and peaceful nano fish admired for their warm red-orange colouration, dark markings, and active schooling behaviour. Their miniature size and gentle nature make them an excellent choice for planted nano aquariums and peaceful community setups.
Common names: Dwarf Rasbora, Spotted Rasbora
Scientific name: Boraras maculatus
Approximate size: Up to 2.5 cm (1 in)
Temperament: Peaceful, shy schooling fish
Recommended tank size: 20 L (5 US gal) or larger for a small group; a larger aquarium is preferable for a proper school
Diet: Omnivorous; accepts small flakes and micro pellets, with frozen or live foods such as baby brine shrimp and daphnia. In nature, it feeds on small crustaceans and worms.
Origin: Southeast Asia — Malay Peninsula to Sumatra, Indonesia
Basic care information: Keep in a group of 6 or more and provide a planted aquarium with gentle filtration and plenty of cover. They naturally inhabit quiet, slow-flowing forest streams with acidic water. A temperature around 24–26°C (75–79°F) is appropriate, with stable, clean water. Because of their very small size, avoid keeping them with large or aggressive tankmates that may eat or intimidate them.
