Acclimation Guide
Acclimation Guide
1. Prepare Your Aquarium
Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.
2. Start Drip Acclimation
Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.
3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water
Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.
4. Transfer Your Fish
Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.
5. Give Them Time to Settle
Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.
Important: Arrived with an issue?
If any fish arrive dead (DOA), keep the transport bag sealed and contact us within 24 hours with clear photos of the fish inside the unopened bag.
See our DOA Policy for more information.

The Chocolate Aphyosemion Australe is a striking killifish with a rich chocolate-brown body accented by reddish-orange spots and subtle iridescent highlights. Its slender shape, rounded head, and colorful flowing fins with delicate contrasting patterns give it a graceful and distinctive appearance.
Common Names: Chocolate Aphyosemion, Chocolate Lyretail Killifish, Chocolate Australe
Scientific Name: Aphyosemion australe (chocolate colour variety)
Approximate Size: 5–6 cm (2–2.4 inches)
Temperament: Generally peaceful but males may display territorial behaviour toward one another. Best kept as a pair or with multiple females per male.
Recommended Tank Size: 40 litres (10 gallons) minimum for a pair or small group.
Diet: Carnivorous; prefers small live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, mosquito larvae, and bloodworms. Some individuals can be trained to accept quality micro pellets.
Origin: Coastal regions of Gabon and parts of the Republic of the Congo in Central Africa.
Basic Care Information: Provide a covered, mature aquarium with gentle filtration, subdued lighting, floating plants, and plenty of hiding places. Maintain a temperature of approximately 20–24°C and slightly acidic to neutral water. This species is known for its attractive lyretail fins and can jump through small openings, so a secure lid is essential. The chocolate variety is a selectively bred colour form of the species.
