Acclimation Guide

1. Prepare Your Aquarium

Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.

2. Start Drip Acclimation

Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.

3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water

Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.

4. Transfer Your Fish

Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.

5. Give Them Time to Settle

Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.

Cardinal Tetras (Paracheirodon axelrodi) are peaceful, schooling fish known for their vivid red and blue coloration. They are ideal for planted and community aquariums, where they display their best colour and behaviour when kept in groups.

Scientific name: Paracheirodon axelrodi
Approximate size: Up to 4–5 cm (1.5–2 in)
Temperament: Peaceful, active schooling fish
Recommended tank size: 40 L (10 US gal) or larger; a larger aquarium is preferable for a proper school
Diet: Omnivorous; high-quality flakes and micro pellets, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as daphnia and baby brine shrimp
Origin: South America — Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela, particularly the Amazon and Orinoco regions
Basic care information: Keep in groups of 6 or more, preferably in a larger school. Provide stable, clean water, gentle filtration, plants, and some open swimming space. Maintain a tropical temperature around 23–28°C (73–82°F). Feed small portions once or twice daily. Cardinal Tetras are peaceful and well suited to community aquariums with other similarly sized, peaceful fish.
