They thrive in mature aquariums with stable, hard and alkaline water, gentle filtration, soft sand, and plenty of small caves, rocks, shells, and other sheltered areas. Depending on the species and source, Bumblebee Gobies may be kept in freshwater or low-salinity brackish conditions, so the specific stock should be maintained according to its established water requirements.

Best kept in groups, they can be territorial toward one another, so providing multiple hiding places and broken lines of sight helps distribute territories. They are micropredators and often prefer small live or frozen foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, cyclops, and bloodworms rather than relying solely on dry foods.
