Acclimation Guide

1. Prepare Your Aquarium

Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.

2. Start Drip Acclimation

Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.

3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water

Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.

4. Transfer Your Fish

Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.

5. Give Them Time to Settle

Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.

Important: Arrived with an issue?

If any fish arrive dead (DOA), keep the transport bag sealed and contact us within 24 hours with clear photos of the fish inside the unopened bag.

See our DOA Policy for more information.

The Barramundi is a striking freshwater and brackish-water fish with a silvery body accented by subtle greenish or bronze highlights. Its elongated, streamlined shape, large mouth, pointed head, and broad tail give it a sleek and powerful appearance, while its reflective scales create a clean, metallic sheen.

Common Names: Barramundi, Asian Sea Bass, Giant Perch
Scientific Name: Lates calcarifer
Approximate Size: Commonly 30–60 cm in captivity; can grow over 1 metre in the wild.
Temperament: Predatory and territorial, especially as it grows. May consume smaller fish and should be housed with appropriately sized tankmates.
Recommended Tank Size: A very large aquarium is required, with at least 500 litres for juveniles and substantially more space as the fish grows.
Diet: Carnivorous; accepts quality predator pellets and meaty foods such as fish, shrimp, and other suitable seafood.
Origin: Indo-West Pacific, including coastal waters, estuaries, rivers, and freshwater habitats across South and Southeast Asia and northern Australia.
Basic Care Information: Barramundi is a fast-growing fish that can adapt to freshwater, brackish, and marine environments. Provide excellent filtration, strong oxygenation, ample swimming space, and a secure aquarium cover. Maintain stable water quality and monitor growth carefully, as this species quickly outgrows ordinary home aquariums. It is best suited to very large systems or specialised facilities.
