Acclimation Guide

1. Prepare Your Aquarium

Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.

2. Start Drip Acclimation

Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.

3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water

Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.

4. Transfer Your Fish

Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.

5. Give Them Time to Settle

Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.

Apistogramma Alto Tapiche is a striking freshwater dwarf cichlid with a golden to reddish-brown body accented by subtle blue iridescence and darker markings along the head and sides. Its elongated body, flowing dorsal and anal fins, and warm yellow-orange accents give it a distinctive and elegant appearance.

Common names: Alto Tapiche Apistogramma, Alto Tapiche Dwarf Cichlid
Scientific name: Apistogramma sp. “Alto Tapiche”
Approximate size: Males around 5–6 cm; females slightly smaller
Temperament: Generally peaceful but territorial when breeding; males may defend small territories
Recommended tank size: 80–100 L for a pair
Diet: Primarily carnivorous; frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, cyclops, and bloodworms, along with quality small pellets
Origin: Río Tapiche drainage, Peru
Basic care information: A rare, undescribed dwarf cichlid from the blackwater Río Tapiche system. Provide fine sand, driftwood, leaf litter, plants, and small caves for shelter and spawning. Maintain soft, acidic, clean water around 24–29°C with a pH of approximately 4.5–6.5. Gentle water flow and subdued lighting are preferred. Provide multiple hiding and spawning sites to reduce territorial conflicts. It is a cave-spawning species, with the female providing most of the care for eggs and fry.
