Darwin Red Nose Algae Shrimp are distinctive freshwater shrimp recognised for their elongated bodies, extended red rostrum, and active algae-grazing behaviour.
Common names: Darwin Red Nose Shrimp, Darwin Red Nose Algae Shrimp
Scientific name: Caridina wilsoni
Approximate size: Up to 4 cm (1.6 in), usually around 2.5 cm (1 in)
Temperament: Peaceful freshwater shrimp
Recommended tank size: 20 L (5 US gal) or larger
Diet: Primarily algae and biofilm; also accepts shrimp foods and other suitable aquarium foods when natural algae is limited.
Origin: Northern Territory and Queensland, Australia
Basic care information: Keep in clean, stable, well-oxygenated freshwater around 22–28°C (72–82°F). Provide plants, wood, rocks, and other surfaces for grazing and shelter. Its long red rostrum gives it its distinctive “red nose” appearance. It is a peaceful algae grazer and can be kept with small, non-aggressive tank mates. It can complete its life cycle in freshwater.
