Kamaka Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia kamaka) are attractive Australian rainbowfish admired for their shimmering blue-green to golden colouration, streamlined bodies, and active schooling behaviour. Their vibrant appearance and peaceful nature make them an excellent choice for spacious planted community aquariums.

Scientific name: Melanotaenia kamaka
Approximate size: 5–6 cm
Temperament: Peaceful and active; best kept in groups of 6 or more
Recommended tank size: 75 L or larger
Diet: Omnivorous; accepts quality flakes, micro-pellets, and frozen or live foods such as daphnia and brine shrimp
Origin: Lake Kamakawaiar (Lake Kamaka), West Papua, Indonesia
Basic care information: Keep in a group with open swimming space, plants or cover, and clean, well-oxygenated water. Maintain stable conditions around 22–29°C with a pH of approximately 6.5–8.0. Males develop a deeper body and stronger metallic blue coloration, while females are generally less intensely colored. A secure lid is recommended as they can jump.
