Acclimation Guide

1. Prepare Your Aquarium

Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.

2. Start Drip Acclimation

Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.

3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water

Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.

4. Transfer Your Fish

Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.

5. Give Them Time to Settle

Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.

Odessa Barbs are colorful freshwater fish with silvery bodies accented by vivid red-orange stripes running along their sides and dark markings near the fins. Their streamlined, slightly rounded bodies, reflective scales, and contrasting black-edged fins create a striking and vibrant appearance.

Scientific name: Pethia padamya
Approximate size: 5–7 cm
Temperament: Active and generally peaceful; may nip fins if kept in too small a group. Best kept in groups of 6 or more.
Recommended tank size: 75–100 L or larger
Diet: Omnivorous; quality flakes or micro-pellets, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp and daphnia, plus some vegetable matter.
Origin: Myanmar, Southeast Asia
Basic care information: Provide open swimming space, plants for cover, and clean, well-oxygenated water with moderate circulation. Maintain a temperature of approximately 20–26°C and a pH of 6.0–7.5. Keep in a group to encourage natural schooling behavior and reduce fin-nipping. Suitable tankmates include other active, peaceful fish of similar size. Avoid housing them with slow-moving, long-finned species.
