Nerite Snails are popular freshwater snails admired for their attractive shell patterns and exceptional algae-eating abilities.
Common names: Nerite Snail, Zebra Nerite, Nerite
Scientific name: Neritina spp. / Vittina spp.
Approximate size: 2–3 cm (0.8–1.2 in)
Temperament: Peaceful freshwater snail
Recommended tank size: 20 L (5 US gal) or larger
Diet: Primarily algae and biofilm; may also accept algae wafers and other supplemental foods when natural algae is limited.
Origin: Tropical and subtropical coastal regions of Africa and Asia, depending on species
Basic care information: Keep in clean, stable freshwater around 20–28°C (68–82°F). Provide adequate algae and biofilm for grazing and maintain sufficient calcium for healthy shell growth.
