Red Neon Blue Eyes (Pseudomugil luminatus) are tiny, spectacular Australian rainbowfish admired for their vivid red-orange bodies, brilliant blue eyes, and shimmering fins. Their compact size, active nature, and striking colouration make them an excellent choice for planted nano and community aquariums.
Common names: Red Neon Blue-eye, Red Neon Rainbowfish
Scientific name: Pseudomugil sp. “Red Neon”
Approximate size: 3–4 cm
Temperament: Peaceful and active; best kept in groups of 6 or more
Recommended tank size: 40–60 L or larger
Diet: Omnivorous; accepts small flakes, micro-pellets, and tiny frozen or live foods such as daphnia, baby brine shrimp, and microworms
Origin: Northern Australia
Basic care information: Keep in a group in a mature, well-planted aquarium with open swimming space and gentle flow. Provide clean, well-oxygenated water and stable conditions. Males develop vivid red-orange coloration, particularly on the body and fins, with prominent blue eyes, while females are generally smaller and less colorful. Feed small foods several times a day when possible. A secure lid is recommended as they can jump.
