Acclimation Guide

1. Prepare Your Aquarium

Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.

2. Start Drip Acclimation

Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.

3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water

Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.

4. Transfer Your Fish

Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.

5. Give Them Time to Settle

Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.

Fahaka Puffers are striking freshwater fish with golden-yellow to cream-colored bodies covered in dark brown markings and irregular patterns along the back and sides. Their rounded, elongated bodies, large expressive eyes, and distinctive beak-like mouths give them a bold and unmistakable appearance.

Common names: Fahaka Puffer, Nile Puffer, Lineatus Puffer, Banded Puffer
Scientific name: Tetraodon lineatus
Approximate size: 40–45 cm
Temperament: Highly territorial and predatory; best kept alone because it may attack or kill tankmates
Recommended tank size: 500–600 L or larger for one adult, with a tank length of at least 180 cm
Diet: Carnivorous; snails, mussels, clams, crustaceans, shrimp, and other meaty foods. Hard-shelled foods are essential to help wear down its continuously growing beak.
Origin: Africa, including the Nile, Niger, Senegal, and other major river basins
Basic care information: Fahaka Puffers are large, intelligent freshwater predators with distinctive yellow, cream, and dark olive stripes. Provide ample swimming space, sturdy décor, strong filtration, and clean, well-oxygenated water. Maintain stable conditions around 24–28°C with a pH of approximately 6.5–8.0. They produce substantial waste and require a varied diet containing hard-shelled prey to prevent beak overgrowth. Keep them singly in a species-only aquarium, as they can seriously injure other fish. Avoid handling or deliberately causing them to inflate, and use caution during tank maintenance because their powerful bite can cause serious injury.
