Acclimation Guide

1. Prepare Your Aquarium

Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.

2. Start Drip Acclimation

Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.

3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water

Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.

4. Transfer Your Fish

Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.

5. Give Them Time to Settle

Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.

Clown Loaches are colorful freshwater fish with bright orange bodies marked by three bold black vertical bands and subtle yellow tones. Their elongated, slightly arched bodies, rounded fins, and distinctive red-orange facial coloration give them a striking and playful appearance.

Common names: Clown Loach, Clown Loach Botia, Tiger Loach
Scientific name: Chromobotia macracanthus
Approximate size: 20–30 cm; maximum recorded around 30.5 cm
Temperament: Generally peaceful with suitable tankmates but active and occasionally boisterous; social and should be kept in groups
Recommended tank size: 400 L+ for a group of adults; a tank at least 150 cm long is recommended
Diet: Omnivorous; sinking pellets, wafers, shrimp, worms, insects, vegetables, and other meaty or plant-based foods
Origin: Sumatra and Borneo, Indonesia
Basic care information: A highly social, active loach recognized by its orange body and three distinctive black bands. Keep in groups of at least 5, with plenty of swimming space, hiding places, driftwood, smooth rocks, and a soft substrate. Provide strong filtration and good oxygenation while maintaining clean, stable water around 25–30°C with a pH of approximately 5.0–8.0. Clown Loaches grow much larger than their common juvenile size, so a large aquarium is essential for long-term care. They are most active around dusk and may make clicking sounds when excited or feeding.
