Acclimation Guide
Acclimation Guide
1. Prepare Your Aquarium
Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.
2. Start Drip Acclimation
Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.
3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water
Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.
4. Transfer Your Fish
Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.
5. Give Them Time to Settle
Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.
Important: Arrived with an issue?
If any fish arrive dead (DOA), keep the transport bag sealed and contact us within 24 hours with clear photos of the fish inside the unopened bag.
See our DOA Policy for more information.

Barred Grunters are distinctive freshwater fish with silvery to olive-gray bodies marked by dark vertical bars along their sides. Their deep, laterally compressed bodies, rounded heads, and rounded fins create a sturdy appearance, while their subtle golden or bronze highlights add visual appeal.
Common names: Barred Grunter, Banded Grunter, Black-Banded Grunter
Scientific name: Amniataba percoides
Approximate size: 10–12 cm commonly; may reach around 20 cm
Temperament: Semi-aggressive and territorial, especially in confined spaces; may eat small fish
Recommended tank size: 200 L or larger, with additional space for larger individuals
Diet: Omnivorous; quality pellets, insects, insect larvae, small crustaceans, algae, aquatic plants, and occasional meaty foods
Origin: Northern and northwestern Australia, including Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and Queensland
Basic care information: Barred Grunters have a silvery-gray to yellowish body with distinctive dark vertical bands. They inhabit a variety of freshwater environments, from still pools to flowing streams. Provide ample swimming space, rocks, hiding places, and good filtration. Maintain clean, well-oxygenated water around 22–28°C with a pH suited to the fish's acclimated conditions. They can become aggressive in crowded aquariums, so choose robust, similarly sized tankmates carefully and avoid small fish that may be eaten.
