Acclimation Guide
Acclimation Guide
1. Prepare Your Aquarium
Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.
2. Start Drip Acclimation
Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.
3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water
Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.
4. Transfer Your Fish
Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.
5. Give Them Time to Settle
Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.
Important: Arrived with an issue?
If any fish arrive dead (DOA), keep the transport bag sealed and contact us within 24 hours with clear photos of the fish inside the unopened bag.
See our DOA Policy for more information.

Gardner’s Killifish are colorful freshwater fish with iridescent blue to greenish bodies decorated with bright red spots and markings. Their streamlined bodies, rounded fins, and vivid coloration create a striking appearance, with males typically displaying more intense colors and elongated fins.
Common names: Gardner's Killifish, Blue Lyretail, Steel Blue Killifish
Scientific name: Fundulopanchax gardneri
Approximate size: 5–6.5 cm
Temperament: Generally peaceful but males may be territorial toward one another; best kept as one male with multiple females or in a carefully arranged group
Recommended tank size: 40–60 L or larger
Diet: Carnivorous; live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, and insect larvae; may also accept quality small pellets and flakes
Origin: Nigeria and western Cameroon, West Africa
Basic care information: Provide a planted aquarium with subdued lighting, hiding places, and gentle filtration. Maintain stable water around 20–26°C with a pH of approximately 6.0–7.5. Offer a varied, protein-rich diet and avoid housing them with large or aggressive fish. Gardner's Killifish are capable jumpers, so a tightly fitted lid is essential. Males are usually more colorful, displaying metallic blue-green bodies with red spots and patterned fins, while females are generally smaller and less brightly colored.
