Acclimation Guide
Acclimation Guide
1. Prepare Your Aquarium
Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.
2. Start Drip Acclimation
Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.
3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water
Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.
4. Transfer Your Fish
Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.
5. Give Them Time to Settle
Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.
Important: Arrived with an issue?
If any fish arrive dead (DOA), keep the transport bag sealed and contact us within 24 hours with clear photos of the fish inside the unopened bag.
See our DOA Policy for more information.

Siamese Algae Eaters (Crossocheilus oblongus) are one of the most effective algae-eating fish available for freshwater aquariums. Recognised by their sleek body and bold black stripe running from nose to tail, they are excellent at grazing on nuisance algae, including stubborn varieties like black beard algae.
Common names: Siamese Algae Eater, SAE, Siamese Flying Fox
Scientific name: Crossocheilus oblongus (aquarium trade specimens may include closely related species)
Approximate size: 12–16 cm
Temperament: Generally peaceful and active; may develop territorial behavior toward its own kind as it matures
Recommended tank size: 200 L or larger, with a tank length of at least 120 cm
Diet: Omnivorous grazer; algae, biofilm, spirulina wafers, sinking pellets, blanched vegetables, and small frozen foods
Origin: Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and parts of the Malay Peninsula
Basic care information: The Siamese Algae Eater has a slender, silver-brown body with a distinctive dark stripe running from the snout into the tail. It is valued for grazing on algae, including some black beard algae, but should not be relied on as the sole solution to algae problems. Provide ample swimming space, smooth rocks, driftwood, good water circulation, and high oxygen levels. Maintain clean, stable water around 23–27°C with a pH of approximately 6.0–8.0. Supplement natural algae with a balanced diet, especially as the fish matures. It can be kept singly or in a suitably spacious group. A secure lid is recommended because it can jump.
