Acclimation Guide

1. Prepare Your Aquarium

Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.

2. Start Drip Acclimation

Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.

3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water

Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.

4. Transfer Your Fish

Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.

5. Give Them Time to Settle

Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.

Important: Arrived with an issue?

If any fish arrive dead (DOA), keep the transport bag sealed and contact us within 24 hours with clear photos of the fish inside the unopened bag.

See our DOA Policy for more information.

Gold Rams are colorful freshwater dwarf cichlids with bright golden-yellow bodies accented by subtle orange tones, iridescent blue markings, and occasional dark patches around the head and sides. Their compact, rounded bodies, elongated fins, and vivid red eyes give them a striking and elegant appearance.

Common names: Gold Ram, Golden Ram Cichlid, German Gold Ram, Golden Dwarf Cichlid
Scientific name: Mikrogeophagus ramirezi — selectively bred gold variety
Approximate size: 5–7 cm
Temperament: Generally peaceful but territorial when breeding; best kept as a compatible pair
Recommended tank size: 60–75 L or larger for a pair
Diet: Omnivorous with a preference for small meaty foods; quality micro-pellets, frozen or live brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms
Origin: The wild species originates from the Orinoco River basin in Venezuela and Colombia, South America; the gold variety was developed through captive breeding
Basic care information: Gold Rams are colorful dwarf cichlids with golden-yellow bodies and orange or blue accents. They require a mature, fully cycled aquarium with excellent water quality and stable conditions. Provide fine sand, plants, driftwood, smooth rocks, and open areas for foraging. Maintain warm water around 27–30°C with a pH of approximately 5.5–7.0, ideally in soft water. Feed small portions of varied food and avoid sudden changes in water conditions. They may become territorial when spawning, so provide hiding places and choose peaceful tankmates that tolerate warm water.
