Acclimation Guide

1. Prepare Your Aquarium

Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.

2. Start Drip Acclimation

Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.

3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water

Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.

4. Transfer Your Fish

Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.

5. Give Them Time to Settle

Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.

The Apisto Agassizii Tefé Pearl Blue is a striking freshwater dwarf cichlid with a golden to blue-gray body covered in shimmering blue iridescence and subtle darker markings. Its elongated body, flowing dorsal and anal fins, and pearly blue highlights give it an elegant and distinctive appearance.

Scientific name: Apistogramma agassizii “Tefé Pearl Blue”
Approximate size: Males 7–9 cm; females 5–6 cm
Temperament: Generally peaceful toward other species but territorial toward conspecifics, especially when breeding
Recommended tank size: 60–75 L for a pair
Diet: Carnivorous/micro-predatory; quality micro-pellets supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, cyclops, and bloodworms
Origin: Captive-bred color form associated with the Tefé region of the Amazon Basin in Brazil
Basic care information: A selectively bred Tefé-associated form of Apistogramma agassizii known for its intense blue to pearlescent coloration, with red, yellow, and dark markings that can become more pronounced in mature males. Provide a mature, well-planted aquarium with fine sand, driftwood, leaf litter, and caves. Maintain soft, slightly acidic to neutral water around 24–29°C with a pH of approximately 5.5–7.0. Provide several caves and visual barriers to reduce territorial conflicts. Females are cave spawners and actively guard their eggs and fry.
