Red Cap Orandas are fancy goldfish with bright white to silvery bodies contrasted by a vivid red fleshy hood, or wen, covering the top of the head. Their rounded bodies, flowing fins, and striking red-and-white coloration give them a distinctive and elegant appearance.
Common names: Red Cap Oranda, Red Cap Oranda Goldfish, Tancho Oranda
Scientific name: Carassius auratus
Approximate size: 15–20 cm; can grow larger with excellent care
Temperament: Peaceful and social; best kept with similarly sized, slow-moving fancy goldfish
Recommended tank size: 100 L+ for one adult; larger for additional fish
Diet: Omnivorous; quality sinking goldfish pellets, vegetables, and suitable frozen or live foods such as daphnia and brine shrimp
Origin: China; developed through selective breeding of goldfish
Basic care information: A color variety of the Oranda recognized by its white to silvery-white body and distinctive bright red wen concentrated on the top of the head. Provide ample swimming space, strong biological filtration, good oxygenation, and regular water changes. Maintain clean, stable water around 18–24°C with a pH of approximately 6.5–8.0. Use smooth décor to avoid damaging the wen and keep with other slow-moving fancy goldfish. The red-and-white coloration may change somewhat as the fish matures.
