The Black Moor Goldfish is a fancy goldfish with a deep black to charcoal-colored body, rounded shape, and flowing fins. Its large, protruding telescope eyes, rounded head, and broad tail give it a distinctive and dramatic appearance.
Common names: Black Moor, Black Moor Goldfish
Scientific name: Carassius auratus
Approximate size: 15–20 cm; can grow larger with excellent care
Temperament: Peaceful and social; slow-moving and best kept with similarly sized fancy goldfish
Recommended tank size: 150 L+ for one adult; larger for additional fish
Diet: Omnivorous; quality sinking goldfish pellets, vegetables, and suitable frozen or live foods such as daphnia and brine shrimp
Origin: China; developed through selective breeding of goldfish
Basic care information: A fancy goldfish variety recognized by its rounded body, flowing fins, and characteristic telescope eyes. Provide ample swimming space, strong biological filtration, good oxygenation, and regular water changes. Maintain clean, stable water around 18–24°C with a pH of approximately 6.0–8.0. Use smooth décor and avoid sharp objects that could damage the delicate eyes. Because its telescope eyes provide limited vision, avoid keeping Black Moors with faster goldfish that may outcompete them for food.
