Acclimation Guide

1. Prepare Your Aquarium

Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.

2. Start Drip Acclimation

Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.

3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water

Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.

4. Transfer Your Fish

Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.

5. Give Them Time to Settle

Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.

The Apistogramma Cacatuoides Super Red is a striking freshwater dwarf cichlid with a golden-yellow to orange body accented by intense red coloration across the fins and lower body. Its elongated dorsal fin, rounded body, and bold red-orange markings give it a vibrant and distinctive appearance.

Scientific name: Apistogramma cacatuoides “Super Red”
Approximate size: Males 7–8 cm; females 4–5 cm
Temperament: Generally peaceful but territorial, especially during breeding
Recommended tank size: 60–75 L+ for a pair; larger for a harem or community setup
Diet: Carnivorous/micro-predatory; quality micro-pellets, frozen or live brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, and other small foods
Origin: Captive-bred color strain; wild species originates from the western Amazon Basin, particularly Peru
Basic care information: The Super Red is a selectively bred color strain of Apistogramma cacatuoides, known for its intense red coloration on the fins and body. Provide a mature, well-planted aquarium with fine sand, driftwood, leaf litter, and small caves for shelter and breeding. Maintain stable temperatures around 24–29°C and pH 6.0–7.5. Keep peaceful tankmates and provide multiple caves and visual barriers to reduce territorial conflicts. Females become strongly territorial when guarding eggs and fry.
