Acclimation Guide

1. Prepare Your Aquarium

Make sure your aquarium is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, and the temperature is suitable for your new fish.

2. Start Drip Acclimation

Place your fish and their transport water into a clean container. Using airline tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at approximately 2–4 drops per second.

3. Slowly Add Aquarium Water

Over the next 30–60 minutes, allow the water volume to approximately double. This helps your fish gradually adjust to their new water conditions.

4. Transfer Your Fish

Gently net your fish into their new aquarium. Avoid adding transport water to your tank.

5. Give Them Time to Settle

Keep the aquarium lights off for a few hours and wait until the following day before feeding.

Important: Arrived with an issue?

If any fish arrive dead (DOA), keep the transport bag sealed and contact us within 24 hours with clear photos of the fish inside the unopened bag.

See our DOA Policy for more information.

The Koi Angelfish is a striking freshwater fish with a bright white to silvery body decorated with vivid orange-red patches and occasional black markings. Its tall, laterally compressed body, long flowing dorsal and anal fins, and elegant, triangular profile give it a distinctive koi-like appearance.

Common names: Koi Angelfish, Koi Marble Angelfish, Red-Head Koi Angelfish
Scientific name: Pterophyllum scalare — selectively bred koi color variety
Approximate size: 12–15 cm body length; up to 20–25 cm in total height, including fins
Temperament: Semi-peaceful; may become territorial during breeding and may eat very small fish
Recommended tank size: 200 L or larger for a small group, with a tall aquarium
Diet: Omnivorous; quality flakes and pellets, bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, and other small meaty foods
Origin: The wild species originates from the Amazon Basin and other river systems in tropical South America; the koi coloration was developed through captive breeding
Basic care information: Koi Angelfish are known for their white, orange, gold, and black patches, with coloration and patterns varying between individuals. Provide a tall, planted aquarium with driftwood, broad-leaved plants, and open swimming space. Maintain stable water around 26–30°C with a pH of approximately 6.0–7.5. Feed a varied, balanced diet and avoid fin-nipping fish or tankmates small enough to be swallowed. Angelfish may form pairs and become territorial during spawning. A secure lid is recommended.
